Biography

Benő Káposzta played for only two clubs during his career, from 1955 for Gyárépítők, and then between 1959 and 1974 for Újpesti Dózsa. Káposzta only played in one league match in the 1959-1960 season for the Dózsa first team, but he won a lot with that: he became champion with his first match. He then won five more titles between 1969 and 1974, and won the Hungarian Cup twice.

Káposzta joined the youth national team in the late 1950s and was a member of the team that won the UEFA tournament in Wein in the spring of 1960. He went to the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, but did not play there. He played nineteen times for the Hungarian national team between 1966 and 1969. In 1966 Káposzta played in all four matches of the Hungarian team at the FIFA World Cup in England. Like many of his teammates, he served as an employee of the Ministry of the Interior. He started as a sergeant, left as a first lieutenant, and then transferred to the Government Guard. From there he retired in 1990 with the rank of captain.
