Biography

The trained merchant Josef Schmitt played only for 1.FC Nürnberg. When only 19 he helped them won the 1927 German Championship, adding another national title in 1936, and was on the winning 1935 German Cup squad. Schmitt earned two international caps, scoring one goal, but was only a substitute at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. He later coached Nürnberg, leading them to the 1948 German Championship.
