Biography

Dr. Werner Bastians later became a medical specialist for orthopaedics, chiropractic, acupuncture, and osteopathy. From 1996 he became the team doctor for the football club BVB Borussia Dortmund and also an orthopedist of the Olympic base camp Westphalia / Bochum and an association doctor of the German Track & Field Federation.

Bastians was primarily a 100 metre sprinter and took part in the 4×100 m relay at the 1983 World Championships and the 1977 World Cup, where he also reached the 100 m final, placing fifth each time. In 1975, 1977-78, and 1985-87 he won relay national titles. His individual titles were the 1978 and 1980 indoor 60 metres and the 1979 200 metres. At the 1976 Montréal Olympics he could not qualify for the second round.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.36 (1984).
