In 1972 West German Klaus Ehl won a bronze medal in the 4x100 relay, with Jobst Hirsch, Karl-Heinz Klotz and Gerhard Wucherer, after placing second in both the heats and semifinal. Domestically he won seven relay titles and was German Champion over 100 and 200 metres in 1975. He was part of the national sprint team at the 1974 European Championships, the 1973 and 1975 European Cup, the 1975 European Indoor Championships (gold medal with the 4 x 2 laps relay) and the 1973 and 1975 International University Games (1975 bronze medal in the 4x100). In 1972 Ehl was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf of the German Track and Field Association. He later became a school teacher for sport and art in his hometown of Wattenscheid.
