Biography

Former East German long-distance runner Carsten Eich participated in the 10,000 in 1992 at Barcelona, where he was eliminated in the heats, and the marathon in 2000 at Sydney, where he placed 54th. He won city marathons in 1998 in Cologne, in 2002 in Leipzig, and in 2004 in Dusseldorf. He also appeared at the 1997 World Championships (10K), the European Championships in 1990 (10K) and 1994 (marathon), and the 1997 European Cup (5K). In 1990 he was the last East German Champion over 5 and 10K before reunification. Eich collected 13 German titles at various distances: 10,000 (1992), 10 km road run (2003, 2004, 2006), half-marathon (1997, 1999-2004, 2006) and marathon (1999), in addition to several other podiums. He retired in 2007.

He was educated as pharmacist, but later worked as a manager in the field of sports and health management. In 2012 he became the coach of long distance runner Sabrina Mockenhaupt.

Personal Bests: 10000 – 27:41.94 (1997); Mar – 2-10:22 (1999).
