Carl Galle was active from 1894-99 as a football player for BFV 88 Germania Berlin and was nominated for the first Olympic Games in Athens for the football tournament. As the football tournament never occurred, he started in Athens in the 1,500 metres and finished fourth in an estimated 4:33.0. He also wanted to participate in the marathon, but withdrew on the advice of the German physician.
Galle was later active as a cricket and tennis player. From 1902 he lived on the Azores where he worked as a telegraph technician supervising the German transatlantic cable. In 1960 he was invited by the East German NOC to visit the Rome Olympics. He was by then the oldest living German who took part in the 1896 Olympics.
Personal Best: 1500 – unknown.
