Sprinter Manfred Kersch was eliminated in the heats of the 100 at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. At the 1938 European Championships Kersch won a gold medal in the sprint relay together with Gerd Hornberger, Karl Neckermann, and non-Olympian Jakob Scheuring. In 1943 Kersch won his only German title with the sprint relay.
