Competing for MAC, Ervin Szerelemhegyi won the Hungarian title five times over 200-400 meters and in relays between 1914 and 1919. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, he started in four track disciplines.
In 1919 Szerelemhegyi finished his sports career and, as a graduate lawyer, began work as a journalist. From 1921, he worked for the newspapers Nép, Szózat, and Pesti Hírlap. Having supported the Hungarian fascist Arrow Cross Party (Nyilaskeresztes Párt – Hungarista Mozgalom [NYKP]), he had to stand for trial in 1945 but was finally acquited of the charges, and then retired from journalism. His books and writings on sports and tourism were popular for some time.
Personal bests: 100 – 11.0 (1914); 200 – 22.4 (1914); 400 – 51.4 (1916).
