Ferenc Szobota, of Slovakian origin, competed mainly in short-distance running and long jump in the colors of Kassai AC. As a member of the Hungarian team, he participated in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, where he competed in the 100 metres and ran on the Hungarian 4x100 relay. Due to a post-war disease, he finished his sporting career and became head of the athletic department at KAC.
As a graduate lawyer, Szobota served in several cities, first in Hungary and later in Czecholslovakia. His last position was as a chairman of the High Court at Levoča. In 1939 he committed suicide.
