Joseph Murphy was a member of the Anglo-Indian Sports Club and represented India at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Murphy was a veteran hurdler and middle-distance runner who won the half-mile race in Madras in 1926. He ran in the 800 metres in Amsterdam where he finished in last place in his heat. He was also scheduled to run in the 4 × 400 metres relay but the team did not start in the race. Little else is known of Murphy but it is believed he was still living in Madras in 1952.
