Biography

Sigurður Sigurðsson was an Icelandic track and field athlete who represented ÍBV in Vestmannaeyjar. Sigurður competed in the high jump and the triple jump at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. His best result came in the triple jump, finishing 22nd with a jump of 13.58 metres in the final. In the qualifying round he jumped 14.00 metres, which stood as an Icelandic record for several years. Sigurðsson studied painting, earning a master’s degree in the subject in 1942. He worked as a master painter in Reykjavík and founded a family business in the 1950s.
