Giovanni Cantagalli was Italian champion with the hammer in 1936 and also finished as runner-up that year with the discus. After World War II he and his wife emigrated to Panama and never returned to Italy. He worked as a neuro-psychiatrist, living and working in Panama until his retirement and eventual death.
