Gianni Corsaro can rightfully be considered one of the pioneers of race walking in Italy. His career started after World War II, finishing seventh in the 10 km walk at the 1948 London Olympics. He then returned in 1960 at Roma and finished 26th in the 20 km walk. He earned nine international caps from 1948-64, which included the 1961 and 1963 World Cups, finishing 11th in the 20 km walk in 1961 and 10th in 1963.
