Giorgio Mazza was born in Venezia and was among the best Italian high hurdlers in the 1950s and early 1960s. In 1958, at only 19-years-old, Mazza was a finalist at the Stockholm European Championships, placing fifth. He repeated that placing four years later in Beograd.
Mazza was third at the 1959 Torino Universiade and then placed second in Porto Alegre in 1963. He was third at the 1963 Mediterranean Games. Injuries kept him out of the Roma Olympics but four years later he was a finalist (eighth) in the event in Tokyo. Mazza earned 23 international caps from 1957-64, setting a personal best of 13.9. He later became a medical doctor, practicing urology.
