Talaat Guenidi was a student at the national police school, but found success in basketball at the club level with Zamalek SC during the 1960s and early 1970s. He was selected to represent Egypt at the 1972 Munich Olympics, but his nation lost every game in the tournament and placed last. Guenidi retired from active competition shortly thereafter and embarked on a successful coaching career, beginning with the Egyptian national team, but soon signing a contract in Saudi Arabia to coach at the university level. He later entered the administration of the sport and served at the club, regional, and national levels, and also headed the sports division of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports in the early 2000s.
