Two-time Olympic long jumper Virgilio Tommasi competed at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, finishing seventh with a jump of 6.89 m; four years later at the 1928 Olympic Games, he did not advance to the long jump final. Tommasi was a member of the Italian national team from 1924 to 1932, during which time he represented his country 14 times.
As a member of club IC Bentegodi Verona, Tommasi was a six-time national champion (1924-26, 1928-29, 1931). His son Rino was a well-known Italian journalist and sports commentator, mostly in tennis and boxing.
