Biography

Armando Valente was an Italian race walker. He became known nationally in 1920 after winning the 1919 Ligurian Regional title. He finished twice on the podium at the 1921 Italian Championships, and then won his first senior title in 1922. At the 1924 Paris Olympics Valente placed seventh in the 10K walk.

Valente won the 1925 Giro of Milano and set his first two world records, over 20 km on the track in 1926 (1-39:20.4), and 1930 (1-36:34.4). He later won the 1929 Paris International Critérium, a 25 km track race. In 1930 Valent set two more world records – 25 km in 2-03:49, and the 2-hour event with 24,275 metres. He also won five Italian titles at 10 km (1922, 1926-29). In his honor Valente was awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
