Biography

Tong Suet-Fong played basketball in mainland China during his youth and worked as a middle school physical education teacher. He first suited up for a team in Taiwan at the end of 1951, eventually joining the police squad after attending a police academy. Within a year he was a member of the national team and he went on to represent the Republic of China at the 1954 Asian Games, where he won a silver medal. He defended this medal in 1958 and, in-between, competed at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where his nation placed 11th overall. His final major international tournament was the 1959 World Championships, where his country was fourth overall. He later served as a coach, including a stint with the national team, and also worked in the transportation department of Taipei City.
