Charles Asati is considered as the most accomplished Kenyan long sprinter of the 20th century. Asati won a 4x400 m relay gold at the 1972 Olympics and silver in 1968. He also finished fourth in the 400 metres at the 1972 München Olympics. At the Commonwealth Games, Asati won 400 m and 4x400 m relay golds in 1970 and 1974 and also won a 200 m bronze at the 1970 Commonwealth Games. Asati won both 400 and 4x400 relay golds at the 1973 All-African Games. He was also the East and Central African champion at 200 metres in 1968-69 and 1976; at 400 metres in 1969 and 1975; and in the 4x400 m relay in 1967-72 and 1976.
Asati retired from sports in 1978 and later farmed in Iringa village, Manga district of Nyamira county. He remained active in athletics circles by serving as vice-chairman of Athletics Kenya Nyanza South division.
