Latvian track and field athlete Zinaida Liepiņa was a good all-round competitor who won 12 national titles during the post-war period. Liepiņa won her first titles in 1924 with victory in the 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay. She won three more relay titles (1927, 1929–30), as well as three in the long jump (1926, 1929–30), two in the high jump (1926, 1930), and one in the 60 metres (1931). During this time she also set 14 Latvian records across multiple disciplines. Liepiņa ran in the 100 metres at the 1928 Amsterdam Games, making her the first woman to represent Latvia at the Olympics. After the end of World War II she moved to Germany before emigrating to the United States.
