Biography

Alfrēds Kalniņš was one of the best racewalkers in Latvia during the 1920s, winning six national titles and setting almost twenty records. Kalniņš won his first Latvian title in 1920 when he became the national champion in the 3 kilometres walk. He retained his title the following year, before winning a third title in the distance in 1923. He had similar success in the 10 kilometres walk, winning titles in 1921, 1924, and 1925. Kalniņš competed in the 10 kilometres walk at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not progress from the heats.

Personal Best: 10kmW – 50:51.6 (1924).
