In the 1930s Mexican track and field athlete Pedro Ortiz competed in middle-distance running races. Ortiz was selected to run in the 1,500 metres at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, finishing sixth in his heat with only the top four athletes advancing to the final. He was also named as an alternate in the 4 x 400 metres relay, but the Mexican quartet were eliminated in their heat.
