Howie Williams was a four-time letterman while at Purdue in the late 40s. He then went on to the AAU leagues, where he played mainly with the Peoria Caterpillars. He was a member of two AAU national champions (1951, 1952) and from 1951-1953 was named AAU AllAmerica. It was while with the Cats that he was named to the 1952 Olympic team. He was also offered a chance to play with the Minneapolis Lakers but turned it down.
