Biography

Émile Barral of Monaco competed at three Olympic Games during the 1920s, the first as a track athlete, before competing at two Olympics as a sailor. Barral ran in the 800 metres at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics but did not advance from his heat. He was also scheduled to run in the 400 metres at the Antwerpen Games but did not start the race. Four years later at the Paris Olympics he sailed in the one-person dinghy where he was forced to abandon the race in his second qualification event. He returned to sail at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics but finished in last place after retiring from the first race and withdrawing from the remaining races.
