In addition to being a talented sprinter, Dutch track and field athlete Maria Wilhelmina “Rie” Briejèr excelled in the long jump. In 1927 Briejèr was the national champion in both the 100 metres and the long jump, with her going on to win a further six titles in the latter (1928–31, 1935–36). Also in 1927 she set the Dutch record in the long jump, which stood until 1939. In 1928 she ran in both the 100 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay at the Amsterdam Olympics, finishing fifth in the final of the latter.
