For a brief time during the mid-1920s Dutch track and field athlete Nettie Grooss was the best sprinter in the Netherlands. In 1926 Grooss became the national champion in the 200 metres, in addition to setting Dutch records in both the 100 and 200 metres. Two years later she won her second 200 metres national title, earning her a place on the Dutch Olympic team for the Amsterdam Games. At the Olympics Grooss ran in the 100 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay, finishing fifth in the latter.
