Biography

Harry Broos was one of the best Dutch sprinters of the 1920s and won a dozen national titles and a bronze medal at the Olympics. Broos won his first titles in 1921 with victory in the 100 metres and the long jump before winning further sprint titles in the 100 metres (1923–24, 1925, 1928), 200 metres (1922–24), and 400 metres (1927–29). At the 1924 Paris Olympics he was part of the Dutch quartet that won bronze in the 4 × 100 metres relay, with the team equalling the then world record in their heat. Broos also ran in the 100 and 200 metres at the Paris Games, reaching the quarter-finals in both. Four years later he ran in the 200 and 400 metres at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively. During the 1920s Broos also played in 23 football matches for PSV Eindhoven and stayed with the club after his retirement to work as a football administrator.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.6 (1923); 200 – 22.0 (1926); 400 – 49.2 (1927).
