Biography

Dutch track athlete Frits Lamp was a talented sprinter who represented V&L in Den Haag. Lamp was only 18-years-old when he was selected to run in the 100 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics. He narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter-finals after finishing third in his heat, with only the top two athletes progressing. He was also named as an alternate for the 4 × 100 metres relay but did not run, with the Dutch team going on to win bronze. Two years later he was part of the Dutch quartet that set the national record in the 4 × 100 metres, with the record standing until 1934. By 1927, however, Lamp’s athletics career was over after he moved to Medan in the Dutch East Indies to work for the Deli Company. During World War II he became a solider for the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army but died in 1945 while constructing the Pekanburu railroad on Sumatra.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.8 (1925).
