Biography

In the interwar years Kaare Bache was one of the best all-round track and field athletes in Norway and won more than 30 medals at the national championships from 1919 to 1929. In 1919 Bache won gold in both the standing high jump and the standing long jump, along with bronze in 110 metres hurdles and the long jump. He won further Norwegian titles with victory in the standing long jump (1921, 1925–26, 1928), the standing high jump (1921, 1923), the triple jump (1920, 1925), and the decathlon (1921). For his consistent performances at the championships he was twice awarded with the King’s Cup (1921, 1925). Bache competed in the triple jump at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics where he came ninth with a best effort of 13.640 metres. He was selected to compete in the same event at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not start. Bache was also a reserve officer in the Norwegian Army.
