Biography

In addition to being a champion sprinter George Davidson also played rugby league in New Zealand. In 1920 and 1921 Davidson was the national champion in both the 100 and 200 metres, and competed in both events at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics. He finished in fifth place in the 200 metres and reached the quarter-finals in the 100 metres.

Davidson played in 21 rugby league matches for Maritime Football Club from 1918 to 1919. After he returned home from the Antwerpen Olympics he transferred to City Rovers where his brothers Bill and Ben also played. Outside of sport Davidson worked for the chemist Sharland and Company Limited for 21 years.

Personal Bests: 100y – 9.8 (1920); 200 – 21.9ys (1921).
