José Farías was a Peruvian long-distance runner who competed during the 1930s. In 1935 Farías travelled to Chile as a stowaway so he could run in the Santiago marathon, with this feat earning him the nickname of “El Pavo Glorioso” (“the glorious turkey”). Whilst in Chile he also won the road race at the 1935 South American Championships in Athletics. The following year he travelled to Berlin for the 1936 Olympics where he finished 42nd in the marathon. In 1937 Farías once again competed in the road race at the South American Championships in Athletics, where he won the silver medal.
