Witold Baran

Witold Baran was a middle-distance runner who competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, finishing sixth in the final of the 1,500 metres. Baran’s greatest international achievement came at the 1962 European Championships in Beograd when he took silver in the 1,500. He won 11 medals at the Polish Championships, with seven golds, winning the 800 in 1961; the 1,500 in 1962-64 and 1966-67; and the 5K in 1968.

After his career ended Baran became a trainer with Zawisza Bydgoszcz. He also sat on the board of the Polish Athletics Association. For his achievements in sport, Baran was awarded the PZLA Gold Honorary Badge.
