The successor of Kazimierz Zimny as Poland’s best 5,000 m runner in the early 1960s, Lech Boguszewicz narrowly missed out on a bronze medal at the 1962 European Championships, placing fourth. In 1964, he won the (open) British 3-mile title, but did not reach the Olympic final in Tokyo, just failing to qualify from his heat. Boguszewicz won the Polish 5,000 m title three times (1961, 1963 and 1964), while winning the cross country title in 1965. He also medaled three times in the 1,500 m, being runner-up in 1965. In 1966, he lowered the Polish record to 13.44.4, which remained his personal best. Boguszewicz represented Spójnia Gdańsk (1956, 1966-68), LKS Sopot (1957-59), and SLA Sopot (1960-65). After his career, he remained involved in local sports organizations in Sopot and Gdańsk.
Personal Best: 5000 – 13:44.4 (1966).
