Biography

During the 1930s Kazimierz Kucharski was one of the best track and field athletes in Poland to compete in distances from 400 to 1,500 metres. In addition to setting ten national records Kucharski also won 11 Polish titles with victories in the 400 metres (1936–37), 800 metres (1933–36), and the 1,500 metres (1933–37). At the 1934 European Athletics Championships in Torino he finished sixth in the 800 metres. Two years later he narrowly missed out on a medal in the same event at the 1936 Berlin Olympics when he finished fourth. He was also part of the quartet that ran in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the Berlin Games. During World War II Kucharski lived in Lviv where he worked as the coach and chair of the Soviet athletics club Spartak. Once the war was over he returned to Poland where he founded an athletics club in Warszawa.

Personal Bests: 400 – 49.8 (1935); 800 – 1:51.6 (1935).
