Dominik Sucheński

A teenager when Germany invaded Poland, Dominik Sucheński eventually fought with the Polish resistance, notably during the ill-fated Warsaw Uprising of 1944. His sports career started after the war, specializing in sprinting and long jump. He equalled the Polish 100 metre record (10.6) in 1950, which remained his personal best. That same year, he won a bronze medal in the national championships, added to the two bronzes he won in 1949 in the long jump and Swedish relay. In 1953, he also won silver in the 4×100, with his club Gwardia. In 1952, Sucheński competed twice internationally for Poland, once in a country match, and once at the Olympics, where Poland was eliminated in the heats of the sprint relay. Sucheński, who earned a physical education degree, was later active as gym teacher and physical educator, spending a long time working for WSWF Wrocław. He was also active as a starter at Polish competitions.
