Biography

In between his military career, which saw him fighting in both World Wars, Sławosz Szydłowski was a multiple-time Polish champion in track and field athletics. Szydłowski specialised in throwing events and won 13 national titles in the 1920s. He won five titles in both the discus (1920, 1922–25) and the javelin (1920–23, 1934), along with two titles in the two-handed javelin throw (1921, 1927), and one title in the hammer throw (1923). He also set five Polish records, with three in the javelin throw, and one each in the discus and hammer. Szydłowski competed in the discus and the javelin at the 1924 Paris Olympics where he finished 24th and 26th, respectively. He also had the honour of being the flagbearer for Poland at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Games.
