Eugénio Lopes competed in the triple jump at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, while representing Académico FC of Porto. He won seven Portuguese championships, winning the long jump in 1952 and 1954 and the triple jump in 1952-54 and 1958, and running on the 4x100 relay winning team in 1952. He also set one national record in each of the horizontal jumps. Lopes appeared in seven internationals from 1955-61, in addition to his Olympic appearance. He later competed for Sporting CP from 1954-61.
