Biography

Portuguese track and field athlete João Lima represented Sporting CP in Lisboa where he specialised in the hurdles. Lima was the first Portuguese athlete to run the 110 metres hurdles in under 14 seconds, and the first to run the 60 metres hurdles in under eight seconds, doing so in 1989 and 1985, respectively. He competed at the European Athletics Indoor Championships (1985, 1989), the 1987 World Championships in Athletics, and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. At the Seoul Games Lima ran in the 110 metres hurdles, finishing sixth in his heat with the top-five athletes progressing to the quarter-finals.
