Biography

Portuguese long-distance runner Jaime Mendes represented Vendedores de Jornais FC in Lisboa. In 1936 Mendes finished as the runner-up in the national marathon race, earning him a spot on the Olympic team for the Berlin Games. At the marathon at the Olympics, however, he was one of handful of athletes who did not finish the course. The following year he was the regional long-distance champion in the 30km event.
