António Stromp

António Stromp was a Portuguese sprinter. He represented Sporting CP and, along with two of his brothers, was one of the 19 founders of the club. Stromp set national records in the 100 metres (1911 and 1912), in the 200 metres (1912), and in the pole vault (1910). At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, he ran in the 100 metres and 200 metres, but did not advance from the heats in either race.

Stromp was an eclectic athlete (practicing cricket, fencing, and tennis) and also a keen footballer, representing Sporting CP since 1909. He focused on his football career from 1914 onwards, but his last match was played in 1916, due to progressive syphilis, which would take his life five years later, at the young age of 27, on 6 July 1921, exactly nine years after his first heat at the Olympics.
