Tony Colón

Tony Colón was a middle-distance runner who competed in the 1,500 metres for Puerto Rico at the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games. Colón went to high school at Power Memorial Academy in New York City where he led the 1970 US high school list in the mile (4:06.0) and then attended Manhattan College. At the 1973 NCAA Indoor Championships, Colón anchored the Manhattan team to victory in the distance medley relay. He was a four-time Metropolitan Cross-Country Champion and twice won the IC4A Cross-Country Championship. Colón also won the 1975 IC4A mile championship.

Colón was born in Puerto Rico but his family moved to New York when he was 10-years-old. He later became a high school Spanish teacher in Garland, Texas. Into his 60s he continued to run distances for fitness, and frequently ran in local road races.
