Biography

Iván Rodríguez was a Puerto Rican track and field athlete who specialised as a sprinter. Rodríguez ran in the 200 and 400 metres at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, respectively. He was also part of the quartet that ran in the 4 × 400 metres relay but the team did not progress from their heat. At the 1959 Pan American Games Rodríguez won bronze in the 4 × 400 metres relay (with Ramón Vega, Francisco Rivera, and the non-Olympian Cains) and finished in fifth in the 400 metres. The same year he won gold in the 4 × 400 metres relay and silver in the 400 metres at the Central American and Caribbean Games. In 1960 Rodríguez ran in the 400 metres at the Roma Olympics but was eliminated in the heats.
