Biography

Philippe Bovy won two consecutive national amateur championship titles in featherweight boxing in 1920 and 1921. The son of a baker, Bovy was a student of former professional boxer Albert Jusseret, and was one of eight boxers from Liège selected to compete at the 1920 Olympic Games held in Antwerpen (Antwerp). There, as one of his country’s youngest boxers, at age 18, he competed in the featherweight tournament, finishing fifth after losing in a knockout to Jean Gachet of France, who later went on to win silver. Bovy continued to compete until his retirement from the sport in 1931. Outside of sports, he worked in a bakery, following after his father.
