Biography

Aleksandr Yelizarov studied in the chemistry department of the Moscow State Technical University. He was yet another athlete from Moskva (Moscow), who competed in track & field for a ski club. A silver medal at the 1911 Russian championships in the 1,500 m earned him a place on the Russian team for the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. There, Yelizarov remained unseeded in the heats of the 800 m and the 1,500 m. At the First All-Russian Olympics in 1913, he won bronze in the 1,500 m.

Yelizarov also became famous as a skier. Together with three friends from his club he was the first to cross by ski from Moscow to St. Petersburg in December 1911. It took the group 12½ days. They repeated this feat in 1936, this time requiring just eight days. Yelizarov is reported to have participated in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Soviet athletics in 1958.

Personal Bests: 800 – unknown; 1500 – unknown.
