Estonian Karl Lukk worked as a typesetter after studying at the Tartu Vocational Education Society at their evening school. As a sportsman Lukk was a talented wrestler, weightlifter, skater, and track athlete. As a racewalker he was the champion in Tartu and finished in second place at a competition in Rīga. This earned Lukk selection to compete at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics but he did not finish in his heat in the 10 kilometres race walk.
A year prior to the Stockholm Olympics Lukk was one of the founders of the Tervis Sports Association. In April 1919 he was also one of the founding members of the Estonian Constituent Assembly where he represented the Estonian Social Democratic Workers’ Party.
