Toni Breder

Toni Breder was the flagbearer for the Saar at the 1952 Olympic Opening Ceremony, the only Olympics at which the Saar took part independently, integrating into West Germany in early 1956. He was eliminated in the qualification round of the long jump despite jumping 6.88 metres.

After the Games Breder became a powerful sports administrator in Saarland. From 1955-68 he was the Director of the Athletics Association Saarland, from 1961-74 he was a statistician at the Athletics Association, and until 1989 he was Chief Executive of the Sports Association of the Saarland. The German Athletics Association honored Breder in 1962 with the Silver Pin, and in 1971 with the Golden one. He was married to graduated sports teacher Lotte Hofmann, who was an active sprinter, long and high jumper and was also honored with the Silver (1972) and the Golden Pin (1981). Their daughter Andrea Breder later was an international successful high jumper, becoming 1981 European Youth Champion and taking part in the 1982 and 1985 European Championships.
