Biography

Kell Areskoug was a Swedish track and field athlete who represented Örgryte IS in Göteborg. Areskoug specialised in the hurdles and won multiple national titles in the event during the 1930s. He won his first medal at the Swedish championships in 1930 with silver in the 110 metres hurdles, and went on to win three more silvers in the event (1931, 1935–36). It was in the 400 metres hurdles, however, that he had his greatest success. After winning silver in the event, also in 1930, he then went on to win seven national titles (1931, 1933, 1935–39). At the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics he reached the final where he finished sixth. Areskoug also ran in the 400 metres in Los Angeles but did not advance from the heats. Four years later he returned to the Olympics for the 1936 Berlin Games but had a poor performance, finishing fifth in his heat to be eliminated from the competition. Areskoug then won bronze in the 400 metres hurdles at the 1938 European Championships in Paris.

Personal Bests: 400 – 50.6 (1930); 400H – 53.2 (1932).
