Biography

During the late 1920s and throughout the 1930s Jean-Gunnar Lindgren was one of the best long-distance runners in Sweden. Lindgren won 18 gold medals at the Swedish championships, including 15 individual titles. He was the national champion in the 5,000 metres (1929, 1931, 1934), 10,000 metres (1928–31, 1933–36), and in the 8km cross-country race (1929–32). At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics he just missed out on a medal when he came fourth in the 10,000 metres, finishing around 25 seconds behind compatriot Edvin Wide. Four years later Lindgren ran in both the 5,000 metres and the 10,000 metres at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Personal Bests: 5000 – 14:43.6 (1934); 10000 – 31:18.4 (1934); 3000S – 9:49.0e (1928).
