Biography

Sweden’s Sven Strömberg was a track and field athlete who competed in the 200 and 400 metres. In 1933 Strömberg won gold in the 400 metres and silver in the 200 metres at the national championships, with him repeating the result the following year. He then won bronze in the 400 metres in 1935 and 1936. At the 1934 European Athletics Championships in Torino he won bronze in the 4 x 400 metres relay with compatriots Bertil von Wachenfeldt, Pelle Pihl, and Gustaf Eriksson. Two years later Strömberg was part of the Swedish quartet that finished fifth in the same event at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He also ran in the 400 metres in Berlin but did not advance from the heats. Strömberg later served as a board member and chair of his athletics club Örgryte IS in Göteborg, as well as a board member of the Swedish Athletics Association.

Personal Best: 400 – 48.3 (1934).
