Biography

Josef Klein was a Czechoslovak track and field athlete who represented VSK Lobositz. Klein was a good all-round athlete and competed in the decathlon at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, finishing 16th. He also finished 22nd in the javelin at the Berlin Games with an estimated throw of 50 metres. He later studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, graduating with a BA in modern and medieval languages in 1938. During World War II Klein was a member of the Czech resistance and died shortly after being released from prison in 1941, possibly from the effects of torture.
